Eighth Week Predictions

Crystal Palace v West Brom – 1-0
Although West Brom were impressive against Everton last week I think Crystal Palace will be able to beat them. So far this season, Crystal Palace haven’t lost a game against a team that finished outside the top five last season and I don’t expect that to change.

Aston Villa v Stoke – 0-2
Even though the only team Stoke have beaten so far has been Bournemouth, I don’t expect Villa to pose any problem to them. Villa have lost their last three league games and looking at their next few fixtures it seems as if they could extend that unwanted run.

Bournemouth v Watford – 1-2
Another clash between two promoted teams. If Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson wasn’t injured I would have expected this game to maybe be a draw but without one of their key players it’s going to be a tough match for Bournemouth.

Man City v Newcastle – 2-1
Despite their loss to Spurs last week I think that City will be able to beat Newcastle. I sometimes think that such a comprehensive beating like the 4-1 defeat at Tottenham actually helps the losing team by spurring them into action.

Norwich v Leicester – 1-2
A scoreline like 5-2 looks like the losing team performed badly but Leicester were brilliant against Arsenal. Still, Norwich were a poorly defended set piece away from beating West Ham and will be a hard test.

Sunderland v West Ham – 0-3
West Ham seem to have difficulties against smaller teams like Bournemouth, especially at home. I think this might be because at home against promoted sides and sides lower in the table West Ham are expected to play attacking football and are unable to play the counter-attacking way that was so successful against Man City, Chelsea, etc. I just don’t think Sunderland have enough quality to pose a threat to West Ham.

Chelsea v Southampton – 2-2
I’m going for another 2-2 result for Chelsea here. I thought after the Maccabi Tel Aviv and Arsenal games that Chelsea would get better but that hasn’t happened. Southampton on the other hand have been quite good lately.

Everton v Liverpool – 2-1
Despite beating Aston Villa last week I can’t see Liverpool being able to beat Everton. Still, there were some really impressive bits of play between Milner and Sturridge and Coutinho against Villa.

Arsenal v Man Utd – 3-2
Arsenal, and Sanchez in particular, seem to be back to their best after that display against Leicester. Theo Walcott has had a great run of form lately but he somehow manages to miss about two or three good chances a match and still score. If his finishing was as good as his pace he would be one of the League’s best.

Swansea v Tottenham – 0-2
There seems only one winner after Tottenham’s amazing display at the weekend compared to Swansea’s relatively poor performance against Southampton.

Seventh Week Predictions

Tottenham vs Manchester City – 0-2
Despite their recent defeat to West Ham, I expect City to win this comfortably. Tottenham are still finding it difficult to get goals but City definitely aren’t, as evidenced by their 6-1 win over Sunderland in the Capital One Cup.

Leicester vs Arsenal – 1-2
I think in the Chelsea vs Arsenal game last week Arsenal deserved to get a point – bad refereeing meant that they were a man down shortly after half time and swung the game in Chelsea’s favour. So I expect them to win this one. Leicester will be a hard test though.

Liverpool vs Aston Villa – 1-1
Put simply, if Liverpool need penalties to beat Carlisle United, they are not able to beat Villa either. On the other hand if Villa can’t beat Bournemouth they won’t be able to beat Liverpool. Both teams are capable of scoring a goal or two so I am predicting a 1-1 draw.

Manchester United vs Sunderland – 2-0
I can’t see Old Trafford being the place where Sunderland will end their losing streak. Anthony Martial has been excellent so far and means the pressure of being United’s only major striker has been lifted off Rooney.

Southampton vs Swansea – 2-2
Bot these sides were impressive last weekend, Southampton more than holding their own against United and Swansea holding Everton to a goalless draw. I’m going for another draw here. These two are sides that can be competing for a top seven finish this season.

Stoke vs Bournemouth – 1-0
Although Stoke haven’t won a league game this season I think they will get one here. Bournemouth are a hard side to play against, though, and will present a real test.

West Ham vs Norwich – 1-2
I know West Ham beat City last week, but they seem to really struggle against so called ‘lesser sides’. I’m going for another shock result today, but one that isn’t going in West Ham’s favour.

Newcastle vs Chelsea – 0-2
I said earlier in this post that Chelsea didn’t deserve to win the London derby by such a large margin but I think they will still be able to comfortably beat Newcastle. Chelsea have improved a lot since beating Maccabi Tel Aviv, and their performance against Arsenal was encouraging for their supporters.

Watford vs Crystal Palace – 0-1
Although I think Palace will just clinch the victory, this will be a big test for their defense as Ighalo, the Watford striker, is in amazing form. There also is the element of the unknown for Crystal Palace, and I think that may be why players like Callum Wilson and Ighalo are doing so well at the moment, because as they were playing in the Championship last season their games are largely unknown.

West Brom vs Everton – 0-2
Everton have been much better than I expected them to be this season but West Brom are a quality side with quality players. Rondon, Lambert and Berahino may struggle to break down Everton’s defense, especially John Stones.

Sixth Week Predictions

Chelsea vs Arsenal – 2-2
I expect the London derby to end in a draw. Although beating Maccabi Tel Aviv was not difficult, I think it will have given them a psychological boost. However, I still think not all of Chelsea’s problems are psychological and I think Arsenal will not have difficulty in putting two goals past them.

Aston Villa vs West Brom – 1-1
If Villa are not able to beat Leicester when they are two goals up with 30 minutes to go, I don’t think they will get more than a point here. Things are bound to improve soon, though.

Bournemouth vs Sunderland – 2-3
This will be a very hard fought victory for Sunderland, and a humongous psychological boost for a side that has been struggling in the past weeks.

Newcastle vs Watford – 2-1
I expect Newcastle to edge it here. Watford haven’t been scoring enough goals so far this season and if that doesn’t change they might have trouble staying up in the Premier League.

Stoke vs Leicester – 1-1
Stoke are a very very good side and are going to be a hard test for Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester who have shown some amazing spirit so far this season – coming from behind to beat Aston Villa, for example. Although Stoke have been in very good form this season, they have a lot of quality in their squad.

Swansea vs Everton – 1-2
Both of these are teams are good sides but Swansea’s last game was a defeat to Watford, while in Everton’s last game they beat Chelsea.

Manchester City vs West Ham – 2-0
I’m going for another win and a clean sheet for City, even though they were defeated in midweek by Juventus.

Tottenham vs Crystal Palace – 1-2
Even Man City had trouble beating Palace, and the Eagles where also able to beat Chelsea – they are a very good side. I think they definitely should be recognised as an established Premier League side, like Swansea.

Liverpool vs Norwich – 2-0
This is a good opportunity for Liverpool to return to winning ways. Norwich will be a hard test, though.

Southampton vs Manchester United – 2-1
I have a funny feeling United will be at the wrong end of an unexpected result again this season (losing to Swansea and PSV, drawing with Newcastle).
